My name is Maria Accardi, and I’ve been actively engaged with library instruction in higher education since 2006. The time and space of my fall 2014 sabbatical afforded me the opportunity to contemplate the nature of library instruction burnout and all that it entails. It occurred to me that other instruction librarians might also feel frustrated, bored, concerned, and just plain exhausted about library instruction, so I decided to create this space on the web for librarians to share stories about their burnout experiences.
I’m aware that the luxury and privilege of tenure means that I can talk about this openly with few repercussions. Since I have this security, I want to foster a safe place for those who cannot speak openly about this subject.
